The Vertical Blind Re-Design Kit Interview

By Interviewer at 06/23/07 20:07

web interview The Vertical Blind Re-Design Kit Interview
Name of your website?

The Vertical Blind Re-Design Kit

Your name?

Laura

Your Location (city, etc)

Brentwood

When did you start your website and why?

I started building my website about four months ago all for the reason of my invention that I now have a patent pending status on. What a journey this has been!

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

My website pertains to my invention, "The Vertical Blind Re-Design Kit" which transforms your existing plain, ordinary vertical blind into a customized window treatment for a fraction of the cost of custom ordered vertical blinds. There is an array of colors/designs to choose from that will enhance your homes decor. The kit is easy to apply, it's fun to do, and it's amazing to see the transformation from plain and ordinary to beautiful and customized. The re-surfacing kit removes easily without damaging the existing plastic slats which allows people who rent their homes to customize this type of window treatment and still stay in good standing with the landlord. This kit also eliminates a perfectly usable product (just ugly) from ending up at a landfill when it would of been replaced by an expensive custom ordered blind. This kit is an affordable solution to the high cost of custom ordered vertical blinds.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

OMG, where do I start? This has been a complete learning experience for me from day one because I only knew how to use e-mail and that is no joke! What would normally take the average person to do would take me twice as long and having to do certain steps over and over again until I got it right. (hopefully)To be honest, I would much rather go through child birth than do this again! I really do feel like I'm raising another child here, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I'm what I call "financially challenged" so I had to learn this all by myself and I still have so much more to learn! It's just like raising children, trial and error and hopefully you don't screw up too much.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Absolutely nothing!

What was your biggest mistake?

Not taking any computer classes before I started this adventure.

Who maintains your website and why?

I'm not sure what you mean by "maintain" but I'm the sole person who designed, runs and maintains this website of mine. And sometimes I literally want to run from it!

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

I've only been up and running for two months now, to date I've gotten a lot of positive comments about my invention and website. So now I have to figure out how to get known (with a shoe string budget) to the vast public who is wondering what to do about those plain, ugly blinds they have to look at every day.(ha-ha)

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

E-commerce is great in my opinion. The internet provides the tools for people like myself to help make dreams a reality. I see the internet as being in its infancy stages still, so as time goes on I can only imagine what kind of growth it will go through and how much people will depend on it in every day life.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I'm still learning about SEO, and it is all very confusing to me.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

A search engine is a search engine is a search engine, that is what I thought until I started learning about the www. Silly me! I see it as another group, corporation or what ever you want to call it, as over-seers to who, what, when and how you either use the www or what ever else one does on the internet. I'm rambling now, I think I'll stop. So far the SE's haven't helped or hindered my website, probably because it's still a newbee.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Directories is the only type of promoting I've done to date, I'm still learning about all of this. (again with a shoe string budget)
