England curtain making Window treatments made easy Interview
Name of your website?

Window treatments made easy

Your name?

Lee Stevens

Your Location (city, etc)

Manchester

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Everything you need to know about curtain making, fitting and hanging. Help on choosing the right style for you and your home. I have learned lots about custom window treatments over 20 years and now will give you lots of tips and advice.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

My site is about what I do for a living. My site helps answer a lot of questions my customers ask me every day. So doing it on the web gets the advise and tips out to a far wider audience. I hope it inspires more people to risk a more adventurous curtain project for themselves.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is my first website and I started it in June 2007. So I'm a real newby. So if my site is a bit low tech then forgive me please. To make up for that it is stuffed full of really useful goodies.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Well I tried to think of a name that told a mini story about what my site is all about.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

The main thrust of my site is about "advise and tips" and not just about flogging products.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I'm going to keep it forever adding new stuff on a regular basis. I hope it grows into a real authority site that attracts and helps lots of people be a bit more adventurous with there curtain treatments.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It doesn't I earn me anything at the moment but I live in hope :-)

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would devote more time to building my site. Instead of working on it after a hard day hanging and dressing beautiful curtains. This would get more of what I know about custom curtains out there a lot quicker.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Not to sure about that question, but as problems go it would be a very nice problem to have.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None just start small and steady, but have a big Idea to work towards. Well if I have to be completely honest. It has been a really steep learning curve learning about website building. I no techie type person. Have enough problems working out my mobile phone. Just learned to text.

What has been your biggest challenge?

As the previous question shows, the website techie stuff was hard to sink in for a while but getting the hang of it now. You can teach an old dog new tricks after all.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I think the number one best thing for my site has been to create great content that real people find useful and informative. Oh and I nearly forgot submitting my site to great directories like this one.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I thought it would be mostly about the techie stuff. When like most things in life it's about people and building relationships.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

To your first question 6 months, and to your second question forever !

On a personal level what has building your site done for you ?

It has opened my eyes to the world. I have been living in my own little world of work and family here in sunny England (well not so much of the sun). Using the internet opens a whole range of experiences, like chatting with other like minded people from all over the world in forums on building websites.

What is your website address?
